Vocora tutorial: a vocal chain set from your own voice

3 min read · Updated

Vocora is a complete vocal mixing chain in one plugin: low cut, corrective EQ, de-esser, compressor, presence, light saturation and a short space. It listens to your voice and suggests the settings. Put it as an insert on a vocal track (rap, singing, podcast). The numbers match the markers on the screenshot.

The plugin

VocoraComing soonListens to your voice and builds the processing chain that suits it.

Step by step

NAUPLY Vocora interface, with numbered markers for each step
  1. Start from a genre preset

The quickest start: pick a preset in the top menu, for example Rap FR > Lead Upfront, Pop > Lead Polished or Podcast & Voice-Over > Podcast Host Clear.

  2. Analyze your voice

To fit the chain to your voice: play a sung or spoken passage and click ANALYZE. It reads the last two seconds, then shows the summary and the profile (pitch, mud, presence, sibilance).

  3. Choose a style and an intensity

STYLE sets the direction (Podcast/Broadcast, Pop Vocal, Rap/Trap, Warm/Vintage, Bright/Airy) and INTENSITY how far it goes.

  4. Build the chain

Switch BUILD CHAIN on: Vocora re-analyzes, computes every module and switches the chain on. UNDO restores the settings from before the last BUILD CHAIN.

  5. Fine-tune a module

Each module's LED switches it on or off, its sliders refine it (hover for the tooltip). On the de-esser, LISTEN plays the hissing band.

  6. Compare with the original

ORIGINAL compares with the untreated voice without losing your settings. Then set OUTPUT so the voice stays at the same level: you judge the processing, not the volume.

The modules in the chain

HPF cuts useless low end. EQ makes a wide cut in the muddy low mids, between 200 and 400 Hz. DE-ESS tames sibilance (amount, frequency, threshold). COMP steadies the level (ratio, threshold, attack and release). PRESENCE adds a bell boost for clarity, between 3 and 5 kHz. SATURATION brings subtle warmth, and SPACE a short reverb, with an optional discreet delay.

During playback, COMP GR and DE-ESS GR show gain reduction live: a useful guide so you don't over-compress. The spectrum compares the sound before and after the chain, and the IN / OUT meters show the levels.

Genre presets

Presets are sorted by genre: Rap FR, Trap & Drill, Pop, R&B, Afro, Rock, Podcast & Voice-Over, Backing Vocals & Ad-libs and Creative (Lo-Fi Crunch, Dreamy Wash, Whisper Enhancer…). Chain Off (init) resets to a neutral chain.

A good habit: start from the closest preset, then run ANALYZE and BUILD CHAIN so the frequencies adapt to your voice.

Comparing fairly

A louder processed vocal always sounds better. OUTPUT sets the gain of the chain only: adjust it so ORIGINAL and the processed sound have the same loudness, then compare. BYPASS switches the plugin off completely.

What Vocora doesn't do

Vocora is not a pitch-correction tool: it does not change the pitch of notes. Nor does it replace a good take: heavy room noise should be cleaned beforehand with a restoration tool.

Building the chain by hand

To set everything yourself, module by module, the Effect+ range covers each step: Deessa for sibilance, Compra for compression, Eqora for EQ. Our "Vocal chain" guide details the order and starting settings.

Frequently asked questions

Does Vocora correct pitch?
No. Vocora sets the vocal's mixing chain (EQ, de-esser, compression, presence, saturation, space), not the pitch of the notes.
Do I need to analyze the voice every time?
One analysis per voice and type of take is enough. BUILD CHAIN also re-analyzes the passage played before computing the chain.
Can I change what BUILD CHAIN suggests?
Yes: every module stays adjustable by hand, and UNDO returns to the settings from before the last BUILD CHAIN.
